AI Engine – MCP Server & AI Chatbot for WordPress, with Claude, ChatGPT & Gemini: Missing authorization
The AI Engine – The Chatbot, AI Framework & MCP for WordPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Missing Authorization in all versions up to, and including, 3.8.6 This is due to the MCP module's OAuth 2.1 Dynamic Client Registration endpoint (/wp-json/mcp/v1/oauth/register) being registered with a permission_callback of __return_true, allowing an unauthenticated user to register an active OAuth client with an attacker-controlled redirect URI. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to obtain an administrator-bound MCP access token, and thereby full administrator-level control through the MCP tools (including user creation and option updates), once an administrator approves the attacker's client on the OAuth consent screen. The consent page is additionally served without X-Frame-Options or Content-Security-Policy frame-ancestors, so that approval can be obtained via clickjacking. The structured affected range is <= 3.8.6.

This CVE was published Oct 30, 2026 and is one of 44 known issues for this plugin.
Update, patch or deactivate.
Official author notes reviewed on 2026-10-30 through version 3.8.9 did not establish an exact fixed release for this CVE. Consent-page framing/warning fix is partial; full attacker-client registration and administrator-consent path not confirmed resolved. This archive’s uncertainty does not establish that the current release remains vulnerable. Enforce the required capability and resource-ownership checks before performing the affected operation; a nonce alone is not authorization. No confirmed safe version is listed. Consider a vendor-supported patch or temporarily restricting the affected functionality while you assess the risk.
Deactivate only when warranted by your risk profile, or when advised by your hosting provider in the limited circumstances where the vulnerability cannot otherwise be mitigated. If you’re unsure which action is appropriate, contact Fused or your hosting provider for guidance.
