MEDIUM CVE-2026-18988 Deferred

Easy Accordion title-tag block attribute permits Contributor stored XSS

Easy Accordion through 3.1.8 lets a Contributor store a crafted accordionTitleTag block attribute. accordion_header_renderer() used esc_attr() on that value even though it was inserted as an HTML tag name, which does not make an attacker-controlled tag name safe. The payload executes when the affected accordion is rendered, normally after a user with publishing rights reviews or publishes the Contributor's content. Version 3.1.9 restricts the attribute to allowed heading tags and applies tag-name escaping.

CWE-79 — Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')

This CVE was published Aug 08, 2026 and is one of 2 known issues for this plugin.

Update, patch or deactivate.

Update to 3.1.9 or later. Until updated, do not preview or publish untrusted Contributor content containing Easy Accordion blocks, or deactivate the plugin. Review affected pending and published accordions after patching.

A safe version is available, so updating to that version or later is the preferred remediation. If an immediate update is not practical, consider a targeted application patch or temporarily restricting the affected functionality.

Deactivate only when warranted by your risk profile, or when advised by your hosting provider in the limited circumstances where the vulnerability cannot otherwise be mitigated. If you’re unsure which action is appropriate, contact Fused or your hosting provider for guidance.

Technical description

The Easy Accordion plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'accordionTitleTag' block attribute in versions up to, and including, 3.1.8. This is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the accordion_header_renderer() function, which emits the attacker-supplied tag name using esc_attr() in an HTML tag-name context instead of tag_escape(). This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
