MEDIUM CVE-2026-105190 Deferred

Easy Digital Downloads: Registration bypass when site registration is disabled

An unauthenticated caller can trigger WordPress account creation without the site's registration setting being checked and receives a logged-in session even when registration is disabled. The account receives the configured default role, not an inherently privileged role. This supplies authenticated access that may enable a separate low-privilege exploit. The export does not identify the registration endpoint, request fields or account-creation function. Affected versions: < 3.7.1. The authoritative export identifies 3.7.1 as fixed for this CVE.

CWE-862 — Missing Authorization

This CVE was published Oct 08, 2026 and is one of 72 known issues for this plugin.

Update, patch or deactivate.

Update to 3.7.1 or a later supported release. Application-level remediation: Enforce the site's registration policy on every account-creation path before creating a user or session. Set the role server-side to the intended minimum and audit accounts created while registration was disabled.

A safe version is available, so updating to that version or later is the preferred remediation. If an immediate update is not practical, consider a targeted application patch or temporarily restricting the affected functionality.

Deactivate only when warranted by your risk profile, or when advised by your hosting provider in the limited circumstances where the vulnerability cannot otherwise be mitigated. If you’re unsure which action is appropriate, contact Fused or your hosting provider for guidance.

Technical description

The Easy Digital Downloads WordPress plugin before 3.7.1 does not consult the site's user registration setting before creating a WordPress account, allowing unauthenticated users to create an account and receive a logged-in session even when registration is disabled. The created account receives the site's default role.
