GiveWP donor values invoke shortcodes on public pages
Unauthenticated donors can submit nested shortcode text that defeats shortcode stripping. Donor-supplied values then reach public-page rendering and invoke any registered shortcode. Impact depends on the available handlers; arbitrary PHP execution is not established. The export does not disclose the donor field, route or rendering function. Authoritative affected range: 4.13.2 to < 4.16.9. Confirmed remediation: 4.16.9.

This CVE was published Sep 21, 2026 and is one of 30 known issues for this plugin.
Update, patch or deactivate.
Update to the applicable fixed release identified in the authoritative export: 4.16.9. Remove shortcode evaluation from donor-controlled fields and render them as data. Restrict the affected public rendering flow until updated, and remove malicious saved values.
A safe version is available, so updating to that version or later is the preferred remediation. If an immediate update is not practical, consider a targeted application patch or temporarily restricting the affected functionality.
Deactivate only when warranted by your risk profile, or when advised by your hosting provider in the limited circumstances where the vulnerability cannot otherwise be mitigated. If you’re unsure which action is appropriate, contact Fused or your hosting provider for guidance.
Technical description
The GiveWP WordPress plugin before 4.16.9 does not remove shortcode delimiters from donor-supplied values before rendering them on public pages, and the shortcode stripping it applies can be defeated by nesting, allowing unauthenticated users to execute arbitrary shortcodes registered on the site.
