SSL Zen exposes TLS private keys to subscribers
SSL Zen before 4.7.40 runs a certificate-file download routine early in the WordPress admin request lifecycle without a capability or nonce check. Any authenticated user, including a Subscriber, can download the site's TLS private key, certificates, and diagnostic logs. The authoritative export does not name the request action, file parameter, or download function.
- Component
- SSL Zen — SSL Certificate Installer & HTTPS Redirects
- Affected
- < 4.7.40
- Safe version
4.7.40- Published
- Sep 11, 2026
This CVE was published Sep 11, 2026 and is one of 1 known issue for this plugin.
Update, patch or deactivate.
Update SSL Zen to 4.7.40 or later. The authoritative export marks versions below 4.7.40 affected. After exposure is suspected, replace the affected TLS private key and certificate in addition to updating. The application-level fix must require an administrator capability, a valid nonce, and an allowlisted file identifier before returning certificate material.
A safe version is available, so updating to that version or later is the preferred remediation. If an immediate update is not practical, consider a targeted application patch or temporarily restricting the affected functionality.
Deactivate only when warranted by your risk profile, or when advised by your hosting provider in the limited circumstances where the vulnerability cannot otherwise be mitigated. If you’re unsure which action is appropriate, contact Fused or your hosting provider for guidance.
