Social Media Share Buttons & Social Sharing Icons: Cross-site scripting
The Social Media Share Buttons & Social Sharing Icons plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via URL in all versions up to, and including, 3.0.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires the victim to be on a mobile user-agent and to click the WeChat share icon, though once the dialog opens, script execution is automatic and requires no further user interaction. The authoritative export does not name the request parameter or handler beyond the affected feature described above. The official changelog confirms a matching fix in 3.0.2.

Update, patch or deactivate.
Update Social Media Share Buttons & Social Sharing Icons to 3.0.2 or a later supported release. Escape the page URL for the WeChat dialog output context and avoid inserting it as executable HTML.
A safe version is available, so updating to that version or later is the preferred remediation. If an immediate update is not practical, consider a targeted application patch or temporarily restricting the affected functionality.
Deactivate only when warranted by your risk profile, or when advised by your hosting provider in the limited circumstances where the vulnerability cannot otherwise be mitigated. If you’re unsure which action is appropriate, contact Fused or your hosting provider for guidance.
