MEDIUM CVE-2026-14859 Deferred

WP Crowdfunding lets Subscribers create campaign posts

WP Crowdfunding before 2.2.1 exposes wp_ajax_addfrontenddata, which calls Submit_Form::frontend_data_save() and accepts the campaign form. Although the request includes the wpcf_form_action_field nonce for action wpcf_form_action, the affected code does not enforce the campaign_form_submit capability before creating a product with wp_insert_post() and crowdfunding metadata. A Subscriber can therefore create campaign posts without permission. Version 2.2.1 adds the missing capability check.

CWE-284 — Improper Access Control

This CVE was published Aug 12, 2026 and is one of 20 known issues for this plugin.

Update, patch or deactivate.

Update to 2.2.1 or later. Review campaigns created by low-privilege accounts, remove unauthorized content, and inspect related AJAX traffic.

A safe version is available, so updating to that version or later is the preferred remediation. If an immediate update is not practical, consider a targeted application patch or temporarily restricting the affected functionality.

Deactivate only when warranted by your risk profile, or when advised by your hosting provider in the limited circumstances where the vulnerability cannot otherwise be mitigated. If you’re unsure which action is appropriate, contact Fused or your hosting provider for guidance.

Technical description

The WP Crowdfunding WordPress plugin before 2.2.1 does not check the campaign-submission capability in one of its AJAX actions, allowing any authenticated users such as Subscribers to create crowdfunding campaign posts despite not being granted that permission.
