WPVR: Setup wizard bypasses Contributor publication restrictions
WPVR incorrectly checks user capabilities in its tour-creation setup wizard. A Contributor or higher can use that path to create and publish tour content and set arbitrary post metadata that the caller would not otherwise be allowed to create or publish. The wizard endpoint, metadata parameter and any specific privilege-escalation metadata key are not disclosed in the export; administrator account takeover is not established. Published affected versions: 8.5.55 to < 9.1.3.

This CVE was published Oct 25, 2026 and is one of 13 known issues for this plugin.
Update, patch or deactivate.
Update WPVR to 9.1.3 or later. Check the capabilities needed for tour creation and publication, and authorize each permitted metadata field before storing it. Review wizard-created tours and unexpected metadata changes.
A safe version is available, so updating to that version or later is the preferred remediation. If an immediate update is not practical, consider a targeted application patch or temporarily restricting the affected functionality.
Deactivate only when warranted by your risk profile, or when advised by your hosting provider in the limited circumstances where the vulnerability cannot otherwise be mitigated. If you’re unsure which action is appropriate, contact Fused or your hosting provider for guidance.
Technical description
The WPVR WordPress plugin before 9.1.3 does not correctly check user capabilities when creating a tour through its setup wizard, allowing users with the Contributor role and above to create and publish tour content and set arbitrary post metadata they could not otherwise create or publish.
