Configuring Windows Mail

Windows 7, 8, 10 & 11 all have Windows Mail as the default mail client, rather than the familiar Outlook (which is now part of Office 365, Microsoft's paid subscription package).

Note

Important: Before proceeding with configuring windows mail, you will need to have created an email account. If you have not done that yet, stop and do that now before proceeding.

Configuring Windows Mail

Configuring Windows Mail for the first time

  1. Open Mail on Windows.
  2. If this is your first account, immediately, a popup should open up with Other account (POP, IMAP) as one of the options. Select it.
  3. Populate your full email address (user@example.com), your display name (what people see when they receive your email), and your password.
  4. Hit Sign in, and everything should populate automatically.

If you've already used Windows Mail

If you've already used Windows Mail, the new account popup doesn't automatically appear. You'll need to use the gear icon in the left blue-pane to get to Manage accounts.
